The Hermetic Principles

These are from the writings of Hermes Trismegistus. Some say that all great religions have a few mystical truths at their core, and all religions point to the esoteric tenets of Hermeticism. These religions include, but aren’t limited to Christianity, Buddhism, Zoroastrianism, Judaism, and Islam.

Within these pieces, perspective is important. Literally. From one point of view, the intrinsic pattern is hidden. Once you know it’s there, you know to look for it. Likewise, if that’s all you look for, you will be blinded to the myriad of things that create the entire thing. What you see is determined by the position from which you’re looking. Perhaps this can tell us something about how we view life, each other, and the truth.

The Principle Of Mentalism
This states that all is Mind. Mind is the nature of the All. The universe is mental. Infinite living mind = Spirit. Our material world and what we see is only one aspect.

The Principle of Correspondence
There is always a correspondence between the laws and phenomena of the various planes of being and life. As above, so below.

The Principle of Polarity
If there’s motion, there has to be position. This is Polarity. Everything is dual. Bad is a lesser degree of good so it’s not its opposite as a separate static state, but rather it’s the same energy at a different polar degree.

The Principle of Rhythm
Everything flows in and out, everything has tides. All things rise and fall. The Pendulum swing manifests in everything. The measure of the swing to the right is the measure of the swing to the left. Rhythm compensates.

The Principle of Cause & Effect
Every cause has its effect – every effect has its cause. Nothing has just one cause or one effect. There are many planes of causation and no absolute direct routes as there are continual causes and continual effects existing on many planes and levels. Always, free will is the wild card that can have many effects.

The Principle of Gender
There are masculine and feminine aspects to all things on all planes. Not “male” and “female” per say. Masculine is projective – Feminine is receptive. Together they instigate the creative process. All things are in a process of creating something.

The Principle of Vibration
Everything vibrates. Nothing is at a complete standstill. Everything has a resonance.
